Every student matters at Marshfields School and every decision we take is based on what is in the best interests of the individual student. We firmly believe that the students and staff at Marshfields are its most important asset, with the staff having high expectations and aspirations for our students’ health, safety, happiness, knowledge, skills and independence.

The Engagement curriculum is designed to offer a semi-formal approach to education. Students will benefit from opportunities to engage in structured sensory activities and access to active learning provision within the classroom. The Engagement Pathway is structured to encourage students to build on their knowledge, acquiring skills and knowledge across all the areas of the National curriculum.

Our Vision

The Engagement Pathway enables learners to apply knowledge across a broad curriculum while increasing independence and preparing successfully for adult life.

Learners are supported to build skills, understanding and confidence so that they can use what they have learned across a range of real-life situations.

Engagement Pathway Timetable Key Stage 2/3

Qualifications

Depending upon individual pathways and assessment, learners may work towards qualifications including:

• Functional Skills;
• Level 1 qualifications;
• Entry Level qualifications;
• AQA / OCR Unit Awards;
• vocational accreditation; and
• other nationally recognised accreditation appropriate to learners' next steps.

Learners also have opportunities to experience employer engagement, careers education and work-related learning.

In Key Stage 4, students on the Engagement Pathway will have a single option choice at Entry Level or Unit Awards qualifications to support them in their next steps and, in the long term, in readiness for college and adulthood. They will have opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications in English, Maths and Science as well as the option they choose and through the Marshfields Baccalaureate.

The Marshfields Baccalaureate comprises a bespoke package of OCR Unit Awards focused on Life Skills offering a diverse range of topics in line with the National Curriculum standard offer, adapted to the cognitive levels of the students to ensure accessibility and continuing to promote progress and high aspirations.

Preparing for Adulthood

Preparation for Adulthood is integrated throughout Engagement.

Learners increasingly develop:

• independent travel skills;
• money and budgeting skills;
• teamwork;
• employability;
• community participation;
• citizenship; and
• confidence in making choices and taking responsibility.
