Stained Glass Window Project

Marshfields was lucky enough to receive funding from ‘The National Lottery Heritage Grant’ to design and make two stained glass windows for our school.

Preparations began at Peterborough Museum in summer 2008.  Students also visited Ely Cathedral to look at their collection of stained glass windows and Star Pit to look at the local wildlife in their habitats.  Students also researched the history of the area local to Marshfields School.  All this helped the students to produce their own designs, relevant to our school’s heritage.

The students and staff have worked extremely hard, designing, cutting and shaping glass to make the two stunning windows, which now proudly reside in our reception corridor.   This is a unique feature, which is highly appreciated by everyone here at Marshfields.

The official opening event, celebrating the stunning windows took place on 21st October 2009, with an official from The National Lottery Heritage Grant doing the honours.

When you visit, please take a moment to appreciate the ‘reflections of Marshfields’ as portrayed in stained glass, and marvel at how all the hard work has produced such beautiful additions to our school and don’t forget to take a look in the gallery to see the student’s in action!
