Design Technology

Welcome to the DT Department at Marshfields

Design Technology is one of the three main areas of the Technology specialism.  Maths, Science, Food, Product Design(DT) and Textiles work together to help students understand where their learning applies in the real world and where they cross over in school.  The aim is to help them grasp that all knowledge, skills and learning has a connection with everything else they do.  They are taught to understand the needs of people, look at how those needs have been met by others, identify what can be used to meet those needs, produce a product and then be able to evaluate it to decide if it has done its' job well.

  • The Design and Technology policy is designed to support and deliver the Aims and Mission Statement of the school.
  • It is seen as an area where students can achieve considerable success and boost their confidence and personal esteem.
  • As well as a vital life skill, Design and Technology contributes to students’ personal development through the 5 outcomes of the Every Child Matters agenda.
  • All students receive their entitlement of Design and Technology throughout KS3 and 4.
  • Students are taught in small groups of 8 in years 7, 8 and 9, receiving the basics in Food, Textiles and Resistant Materials.
  • During year 9 and 10, students are able to produce projects based on their own designs or choice.
  • Year 11 students can gain accreditation at Entry Level in Resistant Materials.
