Marshfields School

A Positive Choice

Performing Arts

My name is Hilary Hull and I am in charge of the Performing Arts department at Marshfields School. There is a school choir, a boy band and a girl band which run as lunchtime clubs. At KS3 students have one lesson of Performing Arts a week. The students are introduced to the three genres within Performing Arts of Drama, Dance and Music. I work on developing their skills and confidence to work with and perform in front of a group. I provide learning and teaching that matches individual needs, challenges and inspires minds, ensuring that every young person aspires to achieve their personal best.

I produce an annual musical open to all students in Years 7 – 9 which collaborates all three disciplines within Performing Arts, it also provides many students an opportunity to participate behind the scenes of a production whether or not they have on-stage aspirations. This is always a very exciting project as students develop confidence and skills in all aspects of theatre. They learn about the self-discipline, teamwork, commitment and the thrill involved in performing to the public. There is the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular Performing Arts events throughout the year.

Performing arts meets the needs of so many of our students giving them the opportunity to build their confidence raising their self-esteem. To link to the schools ‘SHAPED’ vision Performing Arts creates students that are successful, happy and go on to have high aspirations.

Year 10 and Year 11

Performing Arts is an option block as student’s move to year 10. Those students whom choose Performing Arts will take part in the Arts award at Bronze or Silver as appropriate to their ability. The student’s create a portfolio of evidence throughout the two years. Students are encouraged and supported to both view performances and actually perform to others. This is a requirement of the Arts award and students self esteem, confidence and being part of a community all raise their profile through this course alongside gaining an accredited qualification. If you have any questions please contact the performing arts teacher or Ms Anderson.
