Marshfields School

A Positive Choice

Key Stage 5

All our Post 16 students are offered the opportunity to study Functional Skills qualifications in reading, writing and communication.  Students in summer 2018 have been entered for examinations in Entry 1, 2, 3 and Level 1 and 2.

We use Edexcel/Pearson Functional Skills Qualifications in preparation for these examinations we offer excellent tuition and guidance. We will also provide the use of previous practice examination papers. Our intention is always to offer a booster day in the half term period.

All English teachers are involved in the teaching of these qualifications.

The Higher Project Qualification (HPQ)

For a small selection of students, we are now offering the opportunity of more independent study.

The Higher Project (HPQ) is offered by the AQA board and is the equivalent of a Level 2 qualification.

Delivery of the Level 2 Higher Project Qualification involves extended autonomous work by the student. It requires in total 30 guided learning hours and 30 hours of independent study (some of which is expected to be self-planned outside of school)

Students are required, with appropriate supervision, to:

  • Choose an area of study
  • Draft a title and aims of the project for formal approval by the school
  • Plan, research and carry out the project
  • Deliver a presentation to a non-specialist audience
  • Provide evidence of all stages of project development and production of assessment

An example of a project would be:

  • To create an artefact eg. Create a story
  • Researching child development milestones – Match career aspirations
