As part of our SHAPED post 16 curriculum, I have the privilege of teaching Childcare to our students.
This is an optional subject which is only taught in post 16.
Many of our students have contact with children through their families and friendship circles and choose this subject because they enjoy being around babies and young children.
The Course is an accredited BTEC qualification which can be accessed over one or 2 years. It is taught at both Entry 3 and Level 1; giving the students the choice to develop their skills further in this area.
The students who choose this subject will do a course work based qualification which looks at the physical and emotional needs of young children. This type of qualification gives us the flexibility to engage in real life experiences like meeting parents with young children and visiting a pre -school on a regular basis.
Real life childcare experiences contribute to our students developing their confidence through interacting with a diverse range of people both young and old. Our students engage in activities which involve them communicating with one another in small groups, as they develop an awareness of the needs of children. This qualification is ideal for Students who enjoy being around children and want to learn more about this age group.
